K-Pop: Death of singer Wheesung at the age of 43

The South Korean artist was found at home in Seoul. He had been sentenced by Justice in 2021 for the consumption of anesthetics.

Singer Wheesung, star in South Korea, was found dead at home in Seoul on Monday, March 10. He was 43 years old. The cause of his death is not yet known, but, according to the authorities transmitted by the BBC, no clue makes it possible to suspect a criminal act. They specify that “a significant period of time” has passed before discovering your body.

“The artist Wheesung has left us,” said his agency Tajoy Entertainment in a statement transmitted by The Hollywood Reporter.

“He was found in cardiac arrest in his house and was declared dead thereafter,” said the press release, before adding that the company’s employees and artists are immersed in “deep sadness.”

Controversial figure

According to US media, Wheesung had an appointment on Monday with its manager, but did not appear. The singer’s mother, who lives in the same building as him, went home and found him unconscious.

Choi Whee-Sung, the real name of Wheesung, succeeded in 2002 with a first R&B album titled I like movie. The BBC evokes a “mass popularity” in South Korea during the 2000s. It had a concert scheduled for this weekend in the city of Daegu.

However, his career underwent a brake in 2021 when he was sentenced to two years in prison suspended by consumption without a recophe of propofol, a powerful anesthetic. The previous year, it had been found unconscious twice with syringes and an emobate bulbs, another anesthetic substance.
