British rapper Stormzy will receive an honorary diploma from the prestigious University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, where he had launched a study scholarship for black students, the institution announced on Wednesday, March 19.
This artist, of his real name Michael Omari Owuo Junior, “will receive a doctorate in law in recognition of his philanthropic commitment and his influence on a certain number of areas, including education, music, sport and literature,” the university wrote on its website. The ceremony, scheduled for June 25, will be chaired by ViceCancelière de Cambridge Deborah Prentice.
The rapper with the 9.5 million monthly listeners in Spotify will receive its honorary diploma after the approval of Regent House, the university government agency.
55 students benefited from this program
Grime ambassador, a British hip hop subgenre, launched a scholarship for two black students in Cambridge. This scholarship covered its registration rates, as well as its additional costs (accommodation, food, books …).
The program had been extended in 2021 and financed “to date 55 students,” said the university that rents “the Stormzy effect.” According to her, the 31 -year -old rapper has contributed to the increase in the number of candidates for black students in Cambridge.
Angela Davis, another winner
The rapper had been spoken in January with his conviction for British justice to a permissions suspension for nine months, after being arrested behind his rolls-Royce by phone.
Among the other seven winners of this session, the American feminist Angela Davis, an anti -racist figure and the black cause, will receive an honorary doctorate in literature.
