Thanks to his role in 1994 Santa Claus, Tim Allen has become a staple of many a holiday season, bringing joy and laughter to families like Scott Calvin and Santa Claus. Almost 30 years later, the TV show 2022 Watch Allen’s return to Disney+ Santa clauses, a new limited series. While the prospect still brings out the “muzzled” side of the prolific sitcom actor, there was one special hook that got him excited about reprising the role.

I learned this fact firsthand by talking to Allen and his daughter/co-star Elizabeth Allen-Dick during the Disney+ (opens in a new tab) press day for the six-episode series.
It’s been 16 years since the actor last performed as a Christmas figurehead, in 2006. Santa Claus 3: The Escape Clause. With so much time gone by, and before Tim Allen’s recent comments about how this film has been “infected” by the fame of the franchise, I asked what it was like to be back in the game. To that question in true Tim Allen style, here’s what he told Gossipify:
I didn’t think much about it, because my wife warned me. [She] He said, ‘You didn’t like it last time [time, and] literally the entire movie. It’s not that I didn’t like it, it’s just that I’m a grumpy type, and it’s painful to get into this stuff and stay there for 11 hours. They’re better, a little… not much better. And the script was so good for that first, second [episode] – what you saw, it fixed everything, and I was like, ‘Wow.’ Then I become, so to speak, an artist, and I like it [it]. It’s good material and I can’t wait to bring it to the screen.

It’s even more contrasting when you compare this look to Scott Calvin’s, which is franchise frontman Tim Allen’s default shape once he leaves the North Pole. Unlike the amiable North Pole gentleman, Allen kept himself in fine shape.
But like all of us, once the magic of the holidays took hold of the Disney legend, he tried. Even as you answer the question, you can feel Tim Allen go from initial fear to pure bliss. Continuing with the explanation of what this opportunity meant to him, here’s how Allen got sucked into the description of the magic of Santa Clause:
We met the wonderful team, together, everyone, about it. You have to understand how much work it took, because it’s a movie, but it’s shot like a TV show. But it’s not really, it’s more like a movie. That’s where he wanted to go, so we pushed him in that direction, so the platform and the lighting is a treat for all of you to see. It’s beautifully shot and [we] I have to answer questions, you have fun, we can go to different places. It’s a wonderful experience.
