After a historically low September, theaters regained some color in October. As noted the echoesattendance rose again in October thanks to films like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (1.6 million entries), black adam (1.9 million), November (2.2 million) or simone (1.6 million).
“We are going to exceed 4 million viewers in France this week and reach a level higher than the same week in 2019, a record year,” says Marc-Olivier Sebbag, general delegate of the National Federation of French Cinemas (FNCF). According to him, this trend is here to stay:
“In the last four weeks we found usual levels, between 3 and 4 million weekly tickets,” he adds.
Auteur cinema is doing well
If American blockbusters continue to perform just as well, French cinema has recovered some of the hair of the beast with the new toy (823,531 entries), Jack Mimoun (645,441 entries) or Iron (491,045 entries). Auteur cinema is also doing well, with the success of The innocent by Louis Garrel (645,964 entries).
A month and a half after its premiere, Unfiltered, which received the Palme d’Or at Cannes last May, attracted more than 534,757 viewers. Not to mention the excellent scores by Emmanuel Mouret (316,406 entries for Chronicle of a temporary link) and Rebecca Zlotowski (378,080 tickets for Other people’s children).
The improvement will continue in November and December, in particular with the launches of the Puss in boots 2 and D’Avatar: The Channel. And 2023 must start well, with proposals such as Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom Y The Three Musketeers. “2023 will be the first year that will resemble the years before the Covid crisis”, enthuses Marc-Olivier Sebbag.
