Spoilers ahead for episode 8 of new amsterdam Season 5, titled “Everybody’s a Stage…”
The ER was overrun with teenage beauty queens new amsterdamthe last episode, but maximumThe fighting did not involve any of the young women who were injured by the collapsing stage. After a few twists and turns trying to mediate between the heritage department and a veteran whose mother donated her house to the hospital, he ended up with as close a compromise as possible. He looked ready to party with wild elizabeth at the end of the hour, but shut it down on his first serious attempt pass after Elena . I was certainly sad about it, but I’d say it’s a good thing.
Max and Elizabeth were Approach slowly but surely during fifth and final season , to the point that it seemed inevitable that she would be the first woman he fell in love with after the abrupt end of his relationship with Helen. They were hanging out at the end of “All the World’s a Stage…” and chatting away typing on a computer, when he suggested they have dinner. She was all in… when he thought he meant to order takeout friendly. When he clarified that he thought they were going to Benihana “as a date,” she immediately said “no,” without hesitation.
While I can’t say I wish Max was abandoned after he was abandoned in Season 5 (especially with the episodes selling out quickly), Elizabeth didn’t immediately say yes so they could date before the finale. it’s in season. the episode feels like a best-case scenario for both of them… as well as fans who may still be the executioner helen and sharpwin .
In the grand scheme of things, Max’s relationship with the woman he intended to marry and who he considered to be the mother of his daughter ended just a few months ago, with little to no closure. Fans watched Sharpwin’s relationship burn and slowly build before finally reuniting, and it may have been difficult to buy Max happily moved on to a potential new romance so early and with ease. Even factoring in the solid foundation of friendship with Elizabeth that made Max comfortable enough to step in, he might not have thought about it.
And while he was 100% ready to move on by the end of “Everyone’s a Stage,” Elizabeth may not necessarily know it, and may even have more practical concerns. After all, she is the chief medical officer and therefore her boss in New Amsterdam. Max and Helen have had it easy enough with their decision to leave New York and move to London, but that could be a problem for Elizabeth.
Also, the show didn’t really show her as a couple, and season 4’s disastrous karaoke episode suggested that she preferred casual relationships at the time. Her scenes with Max in Season 5 were flirty but not overtly romantic, so neither of them teased the other. Whatever the reason you said no, I think it was for the best now. The characters are good together and seem like a solid couple, but there are some issues that at least need to be worked out before they get together.
Despite new amsterdam with no list of complications to deal with (and business relationships are par for the course in primetime), it wouldn’t have felt right if Max had taken his big step forward after his heartbreak with Helen so nonchalantly at the end of an episode. When you move, there should be more than one invitation to Benihana at the end of a workday, and you should both be ready.
That said, I appreciate the dynamic between Max and Elizabeth, and I can’t imagine a better choice for him to get another shot at romantic bliss in the remaining episodes of the show. Her refusal to go out with her this week may just be the beginning of the show unfolding in their relationship.
