King Carlos III and his wife Camilla will go on May 26 and 27 to Canada, a country whose British monarch is the head of state, Buckingham Palace announced on Friday.
“The king, accompanied by the queen, will attend the official opening of the Parliament of Canada, in Ottawa,” the palace wrote in a statement, a few days after Mark Carney’s victory in the legislative elections.
The 76 -year -old British sovereign, who has been treated since February 2024 by cancer whose nature has never been specified, will say the opening speech of Parliament, Bodyan announced shortly after the announcement of the palace.

“This is a historical honor,” he said. “This clearly shows the sovereignty of our country,” he added, referring to Donald Trump’s wishes to make the country the 51st American state. As a reminder, Charles, head of the Commonwealth, is the head of state of Canada, as Sovereign of Australia, New Zealand and 14 kingdoms in addition to the United Kingdom.
This trip is the farthest made by the couple since their eleven -day tour in Australia and Samoa at the end of October for the Summit of the Commonwealth.
Charles III, who resumed his real commitments in the spring of 2024 after a short break, also made a state visit to Italy in early April, during which he remarkably met Pope Francis and pronounced a speech against Parliament.
On Wednesday, in a message of personal tone, he spoke of the “terrifying” nature of any cancer diagnosis.
