Queen Elizabeth II postpones the meeting on the advice of her doctors

The meeting, which was to take place virtually at night, “will be rearranged,” according to Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth II has postponed a meeting after her doctors advised her to rest, Buckingham Palace announced on Wednesday.

“After a full day yesterday, Her Majesty accepted this afternoon” the rest advice given by her doctors, a Palace spokesman explained. This meeting, which was to take place virtually in the afternoon, “will be reorganized,” said this source.

The Prime Minister received at Balmoral

On Tuesday, the Queen received Boris Johnson at her Scottish residence in Balmoral, who came to present her resignation, and then Liz Truss, whom she officially appointed Prime Minister.

Images released by the palace showed the 96-year-old sovereign, smiling and leaning on a cane, shaking hands with the new ruler, who became the 15th female head of government in her 70-year reign.

Receiving the new head of government at Balmoral was a first for Elizabeth II, who is struggling to move: the monarch traditionally receives new prime ministers at Buckingham Palace in London.

Wednesday’s postponed meeting was a Privy Council, a royal advisory body that hundreds of people, including political and religious leaders, can attend. During this Council, Liz Truss along with the new ministers should have been sworn in and also appointed Privy Councilors if they had not already been in the past.

Deterioration of the monarch’s health after 70 years of reign

Since a night in hospital nearly a year ago for unspecified examinations, the queen, in failing health, shows herself more and more rarely.

He delegates an increasing part of his functions to his son Carlos, who in particular delivered the speech from the throne in Parliament for the first time in his place in May, one of his essential constitutional functions.

At the beginning of June, the British had celebrated for four days the 70 years of the reign of Elizabeth II, who is the longest-serving monarch in the world. She was almost absent from this platinum jubilee, showing herself only twice briefly on the balcony of Buckingham Palace in front of tens of thousands of people.

A few weeks later, however, he made several public appearances in Scotland, appearing smiling and carrying a cane during an armed forces parade in Edinburgh in late June.
