British judge Len Goodman’s scathing commentary was part of the founding of dance with the stars from the start, but he won’t be in the dance competition long. Goodman made a surprise announcement during the final episode, revealing that she would be stepping down as a judge following the conclusion of her inaugural season on Disney+.
Right after dance with the stars At the end of the first round of the semifinals, host Tyra Banks approached Len Goodman with a message. At first it seemed like your typical cut of your judges explaining next round issues or challenges to the contestants, but instead Goodman announced that he was leaving the show after the week 31 finale of the following season. :
Well, while we’re all excited and looking forward to next week’s finale, it will also be with a hint of sadness as this will be my last season as a judge on Dancing with the Stars. I have been a part of the program since it started in 2005 and it has been a great pleasure for me to be a part of such a wonderful program. But I decided I would like to spend more time with my grandchildren and family in Britain. I can’t thank you enough, my Dancing With The Stars family. It was a wonderful experience for me. I look forward to the end of next week. I’m sure it will be absolutely fantastic.
Say it will be a challenge for dance with the stars permanently replacing Len Goodman is an understatement. Goodman has long been one of the most critical judges on the judging panel and, as he said, he’s been an integral part of the show from the beginning. He’s only been absent for a few seasons prior to this one, so it’s hard to imagine him not being at the table in the future.
Goodman’s departure will leave Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba as the show’s only remaining founding judges. Derek Hough joined the cast in season 29 and immediately made a positive impact on fans during the COVID protocols when Goodman stayed home and broadcast from Great Britain.
As for which judges could replace Len Goodman, we’re still waiting to hear more. An obvious choice for a new judge might be Derek Hough’s sister Julianne, who is a two-time former pro champion. dance with the stars. There are also dance choreographers more associated with Disney like Todrick Hall who could also fit the role well. Goodman’s successor will likely be announced before season 32, so perhaps it’s best not to speculate until the end.
Len Goodman’s final episode is sure to be emotional as it looks like the finale will be one of the most competitive in recent seasons. Wayne Brady, Charli D’Amelio and Gabby Windey are neck and neck heading into the final, and anyone can play at this point. Viewers should expect a night of competitive dancing, and one in which even Goodman might have a hard time punching holes given his scores for these late stars. Hell, tonight might be even more exciting than the season 31 “breast chicken” incident, which has now become the second biggest thing to happen this season.
dance with the stars The season 31 finale airs live on Disney+ (opens in a new tab) Monday 21 November. Make sure your Disney+ subscription is up to date and find out which of the remaining couples will help make Len Goodman’s latest show memorable.
