Bad news for the fans. After a pre-sale marked by endless waiting and numerous breakdowns, the public sale of tickets for Taylor Swift’s tour in the United States has been canceled, the specialized Ticketmaster site announced Thursday.
“Due to particularly high demand (…) and an insufficient stock of remaining tickets to meet this demand,” the sale due to take place on Friday is cancelled, the company tweeted.
“I have absolutely no idea what to do now,” lamented Cody Rhodes, whose cousin got a code to buy a pre-sale this week but, despite a five-hour wait, couldn’t get one.
“They said ‘cancelled’ and not ‘postponed’ so I wonder if they still have tickets left to sell,” wondered the 23-year-old fan, who isn’t sure he can afford it to buy a resale venue. the price of which can run into thousands of dollars, but I’ll give it a try anyway.
3.5 billion queries
The company said it sold two million tickets for the pop star on Tuesday during pre-sale, a record for an artist in one day.
Despite implementing security measures, such as verifying fan accounts and issuing codes for advance seat purchases, the ticketing site complained in a press release “of a dizzying number of ‘bot attacks’.
Ticketmaster’s system received 3.5 billion requests, leading to errors, the company said.
This cacophony has reignited the debate over this giant of the ticketing industry, which has fueled the frustration of music lovers for years, especially due to hidden fees and skyrocketing prices.
