The stars of the K-Pop BTS, RM and V phenomena group were launched on Tuesday, June 10 from their mandatory military service in South Korea, announcing to work on a new album to go to the stage “as soon as possible.”
The first South Korean group to dominate the American and British lists, designated several times for the Grammy Awards and a world community of fans called Army, BTS has generated several billions in revenue since its beginning in 2013.
But in South Korea, all valid men under 30 are called at least 18 months under the flags due to tensions with the north, an obligation that forced the Band of Children to mark a break in 2022.
Meeting with the public
Hundreds of fans gathered on Tuesday about two military bases, located north of Seoul, for the demobilization of the RM group leader, whose full name is Kim Nam-Joon, and that of V, of his real name Kim Tae-Hyung.
After leaving the thresholds of two different vehicles, the two K-pop stars were filled under the screams of joy of fans and RM fans played a song in the saxophone, next to V containing two bouquets of flowers.
“What we want most now is to return to the stage,” RM announced in front of the press and fans. “We work hard on the new album to return to the stage as soon as possible.”
The complete return of the boys band is scheduled by the end of June. Two other members of BTS, Jin and J-Hope, have already completed their military service last year. Two others will return to civil life at the end of the week, followed by their comrade Suga at the end of the month.
“Run to the Army”
“To be honest, there have been many difficult and painful moments, but during my service, I really felt how many people protected the country for us,” RM said during a press conference.
“Uniting the Army was a time to recharge my batteries, rebuilding my body and my mind,” V.
“Now that it is done, I really want to run to the army as quickly as possible,” he continued.
The BTS agency, Hybe, had prayed to the group’s fans not to go there for security reasons. But, nevertheless, dozens of fans have gathered in front of the V Base on Tuesday.
“With all honesty, I came with great expectations,” said Yang Ho-He, 28, at AFP.
“In fact, these are contradictory emotions. I feel that I cry,” says Arlene Mendoza, a Filipina fan, who came to South Korea many times. “But this is the first time I will see V”.
When is your return?
All BTS members have signed new contracts with the HYBE agency in 2023. Analysts predict a return of the group to the studies and on stage after all its members have completed their military service.
The last member of the band of boys to reconnect with civil life is Suga, who will be released on June 21. In a meeting of Hybé shareholders in March, the CEO of the Lee Jae-Sang agency spoke of a possible return of the Band of Children in 2025, emphasizing that its members were going to have “needed time to think and prepare.”
“Normally, the process begins with the production of a song, continues with the launch of an album, then by a tour,” he said.
A few days before the 12th anniversary of the beginning of the children’s band on Friday, Hybé’s office in Seoul was covered with the slogan “We are back” (“We are back”, note of the editor). Thousands of fans are expected in this “Festa BTS”.
The agency’s action rose 3% on Tuesday morning, reaching its highest level in two years. “We see that there is a great possibility of an ascending review of results forecasts, which could lead to an increase in the course of action,” said AFP Lim Soo-Jin, Daishin Securities analyst.
