The shoks, aliens with the appearance of a great bird and with absurd humor, will be the heroes of a new animated series, almost 60 years after their appearance on television in 1968, the companies behind the project on Tuesday.
“Each episode, short and autonomous, will be entrusted to a different author: YouTubers, comics authors, humorists or directors of the new generation,” AAA’s production companies said in a statement (historical rights), Encakawa and Nore Studio.
Entitled Sodaks – The new collectionThis series is intended to “reinterpret the absurd, satirical and poetic universe” of the creator Jacques Rouxel, “in the light of the failures of our time.”
“2D, 3D, stop or live action”
“The animation styles will be varied: 2D, 3D, Image By Image (Stop Motion) or live action” (real shots), producers said, who want to “seduce both the original series” and “generations born in the 80s, 90s and 2000s.”
According to them, “the first episodes will enter production in 2025”, for a presentation planned at the Annecy 2026 International Animation Film Festival. We do not know at this stage what will transmit these new episodes.
Released in 1968 in the ORTF with the emblematic voice of actor Claude PiPlu, the original series has 208 episodes of a few minutes distributed in four seasons.
The first three had been produced from 1968 to 1973, then the series was relaunched in 2000, after a parenthesis of almost 30 years.
Absurd humor
Sodaks is based on an absurd English humor that did not get used to the French spectators of the late 1960s. Therefore, this cartoon strongly divided the public in its early days, before becoming a cult.
The series tells the hilarious space adventures of the Shokoks, who only dominate four words (“ga”, “bu”, “zo”, “meu”) and whose main occupations are to build crazy machines and pump without knowing why. They oppose Gibis, other much more intelligent aliens.
