The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, was invited on Monday to lunch for King Charles III at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace said before an interview with Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the afternoon.
This visit to the United Kingdom is on the eve of a NATO summit in The Hague, and after a new Russian air attack that killed at least eight civilians in kyiv and at night.
“The Ukrainian president visited the king this afternoon and stayed to have lunch,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement, without revealing the content of the exchanges.
“Unwavering support”
Volodymyr Zelensky had already been received by Charles III in early March at his Royal Residence in Norfolk (east of England), two days after the spectacular altercation between Ukrainian President and Donald Trump in the Oval office.
Then you must go to Downing Street to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer around 3:00 pm (2:00 pm GMT), who “will reiterate his unwavering support for Ukraine,” said a spokesman.
When announcing his visit to the United Kingdom, the Ukrainian president said he would talk to his allies about the “defense” of his country.
At a diplomatic level, conversations between Moscow and kyiv are stagnant despite Washington’s pressure, more than three years after the beginning of the Russian invasion. The last meeting between the two parties dates back to almost three weeks, and no other is planned.
Volodymyr Zelensky must also be exchanged on Monday with the military personnel of Ukraine who trains in British territory and representatives of reflection groups, according to the spokesman of the Ukrainian presidency Serguii NykyForov.
