“To his best”, in front of a “crowd in worship”: the return of Oasis on stage on Friday in Cardiff after 16 years of absence reaped the praises of the British press, which greets a concert full of nostalgia of the 1990s.
“16 years have passed since the separation, but Oasis has returned as if time had never happened,” writes the Telegraph.
“It was a meeting between an audience and his favorite group, between Britain and Rock and Roll,” according to his columnist Neil McCormick.
For the Daily Mail, the 74,000 fans gathered at the Welsh capital stadium were “impressive” for the “Electrizer, Energy and Nostalgia” concert by Liam and Noel Gallagher.
A group “at its best since the 1990s”
This will be followed by another 40 dates worldwide, from its hometown of Manchester to Brazil through London or Japan, with about 900,000 tickets sold.
Mark Savage of the BBC describes a group “to the maximum since the 1990s”, with “an appetite and a passion that lacked its last 2009 concerts.”
Even if the brothers did not speak on stage, “the simple fact of listening again in harmony, after all this animosity (…) was an immense source of emotion,” he continues.
Alexis Petridis of The Guardian describes it “a trip assumed in the 90s”, to delight a “cult crowd.”
