Nightmare in the kitchen. The two popular presenters of the Masterchef culinary program in the United Kingdom, John Torode, 59, and Gregg Walace, 60, were fired from the program. They had begun to encourage the television program together in 2005.
His announcer, the BBC, announced on July 15 that he would not renew the contract of John Torode. “We will not tolerate any racist language,” he wrote in a statement. The presenter denies, meanwhile, having made racist comments. He said that “he did not remember the incident” and said he was “shocked and sad” for these accusations.
A decision that arrives a week after the dismissal of another face of the program, Gregg Walace, accused of sexual harassment in the sets.
Overwhelming
These accusations appear in the conclusions, presented on Monday, of a seven -month investigation commissioned by the show producer, Banijay UK, in Gregg Wallace.
The report says that 45 of the 83 accusations addressed to the presenter Star, according to a statement. These are particularly related to the comments with sexual connotation, but also for one of them in an unbelled touch. Most of the events would have taken place between 2005 and 2018.
The conclusions of the survey also highlight the lack of response from the equipment in front of this type of complaint. The BBC apologized to all the people who have been victims of the actions of its presenter.
Gregg Wallace has rejected these accusations in general, on several occasions. “I challenged the question of unfashed touch, but I had to accept a difference in perception, and deeply regret the anguish caused,” he said.
New blow
In December, the BBC announced the deprogramming of two episodes of the Special Christmas program, “Celebrity Masterchef Christmas Cook”, after the first accusations against Gregg Wallace.
The latter had decided at that moment to start with the show. But he had aroused an outrage in saying that his accusers were “a handful of women of a certain age of the middle class.”
Therefore, this issue is a new blow to the British audiovisual giant, already involved for their management of several cases involving a particular sexual assault. In September 2024, Huw Edwards, a former star presenter, was sentenced to the arrest of children’s pornographic images.
