One of the most popular cartoons among the little ones is making a small revolution: the British series Peppa Pigwhich is a worldwide success, presented his first homoparental family in the episode broadcast this Tuesday in the United Kingdom by Channel 5.
In this episode titled families, Peppa chats with her friend Penny, the polar bear. She tells him about her parents, while she draws her portrait:
“I live with my mother and my other mother,” she explains. “A mom is a doctor and a mom cooks spaghetti.”
Later in the episode, Penny’s mothers show up after school with the other parents to pick up their daughter.
A petition published two years ago.
Peppa Pig was released in 2004. According to sky newsSince then, the series has been exported to 180 countries and attracts millions of viewers in the United States alone. As the BBC recalls, an American petition put online two years ago demanded the presence of a homoparental family in the cartoon, and had collected 24,000 signatures. “Excluding single-parent families (from the program) will teach children that only single-parent or hetero-parent families are normal,” she said.
With this first homosexual couple, Peppa Pig takes a cue from another popular anime series, Arthurwhich featured a wedding between two men in an episode that aired in 2019.
