What would be a festive night to choose Mrs. Mayotte 2025 became a penions on the situation of the island, this Saturday, August 30. Faced with technical dysfunctions and defective organization, Bérenger Mirc, office manager of the Miss France Committee, deplored the “catastrophic” state of Mayotte, calling the State to “awaken.”
The ceremony, which took place in the presence of Angélique Angerni-Filopon, the current Miss France, quickly turned to Fiasco. No local diffuser, nor Mayotte la 1ère or Kwezi TV, agreed to transmit the event, forcing the organizers to a single distribution in social networks. In a small performance room, far from the well -greased mechanics of regional competitions, technical problems have been chained: portraits of unpaid candidates, a screen that shows the logo of the backlight instead of the planned images.
It is in this tense context that Bedrenger Mirc, a member of the jury, expressed his reproaches for the first time to the regional delegate before his speech assumed a political dimension. “In the islands in general, what makes you travel, when you can’t afford to move is television,” he advanced, awkwardly. Before driving for the abandonment of the island for public authorities.
“When circle on his island, sometimes I have the impression of not being in France. I don’t know what the state is doing for Mayotte,” he said before the stunned assembly.
His direct call to the authorities marked the spirits: “Please, wake up. It is time to do something for this island of the Indian Ocean that, I repeat, French (…). I should not have the impression of shooting in India when I am at home.” The sequence, transmitted in Tiktok, has gone viral, transforming the choice of Miss Mayotte into a symbol of the difficulties of the territory.
A crisis that goes beyond beauty competition
Organizational problems are not trivial. The local economy, weakened since the passage of the chid cyclone in December 2024, explains in part the lack of means. Regional competitions work thanks to associations with local companies that subsidize the event in exchange for visibility. In Mayotte, these resources seem to have lacked.
Frédéric Gilbert, president of the company, Miss France, confirms to BFMTV that the night “was not in terms of what can be expected from a regional competition”, evoking “hypo, technical problems and dysfunctions.” If you do not condemn the words of Bedrenger Mirc, remember that the competition is “apolitical” and recognizes that your collaborator is “out of the frame” in “a hot reaction.”
The shock wave has spread to local instances. Benucci Attoumani, the regional delegate of Miss Mayotte, sent her resignation on Monday “in a lucidity impulse” according to Frédéric Gilbert. The Miss Mayotte committee also apologized in a statement published on Tuesday, September 2.
However, a Miss Mayotte was designated at the end of this chaotic night: it is Kamillat Hervian.
