When Kelsey Grammer’s Frasier Crane returned to Seattle, Washington following the conclusion of Health For him fraser spin-off (a show full of behind-the-scenes facts), introduced audiences to the character’s father, John Mahoney’s Martin, and brother, David Tye Pierce’s Niles. Sadly, Mahoney passed away in 2018 at the age of 77, but with a fraser revival coming exclusively to Paramount+ subscribers, there was a chance to see Frasier and Niles reunited. Unfortunately, that won’t happen, and Grammer explained why.
It’s safe to say that Niles Crane is David Hyde Pierce’s most famous role, as the actor won four Primetime Emmy Awards during his time in fraser and was nominated seven more times. Yet, according to Kelsey Grammer, Pierce was unwilling to reprise the character nearly 20 years later. fraser ceased broadcasting. In Grammer’s words:
David basically decided he wasn’t really interested in repeating Niles’ performance.
Kelsey Grammer shared this update while talking to people about the current situation with the fraser revival, further mentioning that rehearsals will begin in February. We already knew that the revival would see Frasier Crane living in a new city and surrounded by new faces, so it was to be expected that David Hyde Pierce would not be a series regular. However, according to Grammer’s update, Niles making a guest appearance is also no longer on the table, as Pierce has left Niles. Maybe I’ll change my mind if he fraser The revival spans several seasons, but for now, don’t expect to see Fraiser and Niles indulging in witty banter and enjoying glasses of sherry together like in the good old days.
It ended up working for Kelsey Grammer, who was grateful that Frasier Crane didn’t just relive the past with this revival, calling his character “a brave little soldier who moves on with his life, finding new challenges, new love, new people and a new city, etc. In addition to reiterating that this revival “will honor the fact that John Mahoney is dead and Martin is no longer with us,” it will also acknowledge the absence of Niles, as well as Peri’s Roz Doyle and Daphne Moon Gilpin by Jane Leeves Grammer continues:
We will definitely answer that there was a brother and others. But the new world for Frasier is one of new friendships and new twists he didn’t know were there yet.
The fraser the revival was officially greenlit on Paramount+ in February 2021, and it was revealed last month that the show had landed a 10-episode order. Specific plot details remain under wraps, but we’ll update you on the progress of the project as more news arrives. Check out our 2022 TV lineup to see what’s missing from this year’s debut.
