On September 8, bookstores of the booksellers will be the host of the book Miss France, sleepy until reality By Hubert Guerrin, a work in which several dozen of Miss France and the regional elected officials are witnesses of the sexual violence of which they were victims within the framework of the competition.
Apart from this publication, the Miss France committee spoke on social networks this Friday.
“Unacceptable” and “condemnable” facts
In a statement published jointly about Miss France’s Instagram account and in her own personal account, Frédéric Gilbert, president of the company, indicates that she cannot judge the veracity of these testimonies.
Remember that the period in which the book is concentrated, that is, between 1990 and 2002, was a period prior to the presence of endemol, then Banijay.
“However, if they were proven, these facts would affect the subjects that care deeply: security, dignity and respect for women,” he wrote.
Frédéric Gilbert specifies that “any form of sexual violence, abuse or harassment is unacceptable and condemnable”, which guarantees supporting the victims, “if these facts are proven.”
“A machine to grind the candidates”
Started in 2020 by Hubert Guerrin, last collaborator of Gineviève de Fontenay, and the latter to return to the origin of the competition, the writing of the book took a completely different turn when the author began to collect the confidences of several tens of the old Miss France.
The queens of beauty, as well as regional elected officials, report depression, harassment, isolation, even sexual violence. These would have taken place “as part of the competition, under the direction of the Miss France organization.”
“I discovered a hidden side that I did not dare to imagine. It is a machine to grind the candidates, the competition destroys them and we send them back to society without protection,” says Hubert Guérin, transmitted by Le Programs.
A former lady trusts that she was raped during her reign year. Another says that you have suffered abuses a few hours later: “In my room, they push me against the bed, they treat me with all the names and I am tearing my dress,” she says.
An omert
Forced blowjob, playing during photo sessions … women who have brought their testimony to this book wanted to maintain their anonymity. At the time of the events, they were killed, for fear of being eliminated or that their history was not heard.
“Some have told me:” Behind us, we have a family and a region. “They don’t want to disappoint,” says Hubert Gueré.
Geneviève de Fontenay, like Sylvie Tellier, would never have known these facts. During the writing of his book, Hubert Guerrin, who describes himself as an “omerta”, tried to chat with Frédéric Gilbert, in vain. His requests with other players in the competition also remained a dead letter. He also claims to have been threatened with judgments.
