Venice Mostra: The movie “Father mother sister” by Jim Jarmusch wins the golden lion

The Italian Film Festival has rewarded an independent American film by Jim Jarmusch. Presented as a favorite, the film about Gaza “The Voice of Hind Rajab” received the Lion Silver.

The 82nd Mostra de Venice rewarded on Saturday, September 6, an independent American film by Jim Jarmusch about the family, giving a lot of comfort to “The Voice of Hind Rajab” in Gaza.

During a closing ceremony marked by the many gestures and statements of solidarity with respect to Gaza, it was the film “Father sister sister” by Jim Jarmusch, who was awarded, to everyone’s surprise, the golden lion.

It is a triptych between New Jersey, Dublin and Paris, carried by a five -star cast (Adam Driver, Cate Blanchett, Tom Waits …)

Very sober in its staging, this feature film, where silences, gestures and looks often count more than dialogues, is a tender reflection on the family. A kind of “action anti-copicle”, had fun to its director, 72 years and independent film figure, who also wrote the script.

A “discreet movie”

Black glasses in the nose and with the “enough” (“enough”) of a pin, Jim Jarmusch said we do not need to speak politicians to be politicians. “

“It can endanger empathy and connection between people, which is the first step to solve the problems we have,” he said.

He also thanked the jury, chaired by his compatriot Alexander Payne, for having appreciated his “discreet film.”

“The voice of Hind Rajab” receives the silver lion

He was chosen before Mostra’s favorite, “The Voice of Hind Rajab,” the second most important prize gave him.

Its director, Kaouther Ben Hania, dedicated this price to workers of the Palestinian red. The story of Hind Rajab is “the tragic story of an entire people suffering from a genocide inflicted by an Israeli criminal government that acts with impunity,” he said, very moved.

OVada for 23 minutes, this feature film altered the festival attendees. Its director was based on the real recordings of the help of a five -year -old Palestinian girl who had aroused great emotion at the time of her revelation.

Hind Rajab was found dead inside a car projected with bullets in Gaza City, several days after spending hours on January 29, 2024, with the Palestinian red crescent. The vehicle in which he traveled with six family members had been attacked by Israeli soldiers.

A very political edition

Despite the programming giving pride to the stars and big names in the cinema, the war in the Gaza Strip won a large extent during this show.

The 82nd edition was opened in the call of a group founded by ten Italian filmmakers to condemn the war launched after the unprecedented attack in Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023.

An unprecedented parade followed in the lido of several thousand protesters a week ago and the support of artists transporting pin and signs on the red carpet or in front of journalists.

The rewarded rock

The festival also appointed the best director of the American Benny Safdie, who offered a golden role to Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, in “The Smashing Machine”, in a combat dam from MMA to addictions.

Often considered a launch ramp for the Oscar, the Mostra offers a great place for Hollywood cinema and the transmission platforms, unlike its Cannes competitor.

But, ultimately, it is the Italian actor Toni Servillo who left with a reward for his role as widower at the end of a mandate trapped in the moral dilemmas in “La Grazia”.

The film, which deals with the filigree of Euthanasia, signs a new collaboration with Paolo Sorrentino that, like him, has acquired an international stature with “La Grande Bellezza”, Oscar for the best foreign film in 2014.

French film 51 presented

Chino Xin Zhilei, at the top of his art in The sun rises above all of us From Cai Shangjun, he received the Volpi Cup for the best actress for his performance as a tormented woman when a former lover reappears.

The ceremony ended in a message from Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, patriarch of Jerusalem, who called Visio to stop “this war as soon as possible.” “We know it, it no longer makes sense to continue. It’s time to stop this drift.”

The festival closes its doors with the French blockbuster “Dog 51”, a thriller in a futuristic Paris and produces anxiety, with Adèle Exarchopoulos.
