Jeff Dunham is undoubtedly the most famous ventriloquist in the world. This is evident from the fact that he has not only become a household name, but also the characters that he creates. Peanut the quirky purple “woozle”, Walter the grumpy old man and José Jalapeño on a Stick are beloved characters (or as he would call them, “dorks”) who have come to life in his various comedy specials over the past 30 years. years. . . work in the entertainment industry. Of course, by bringing these folks to life, you realize that not all of them are winners, which is how we got Tony the Talking Meatball.
I recently sat down with Dunham to talk about his upcoming Comedy Central special. me people when he dealt his box of flops, or as he calls them, “what the hell was I thinking?” characters. His favorite among the models is a meatball which, of course, has an Italian accent.
I’ll tell you though, there are characters that I have, a chest full of characters that I call, ‘what the hell was I thinking?’ And these are usually from the previous days. So my ‘what the hell was I thinking?’ the favorite was that he had Jose Jalapeño On A Stick. The oldest character in my issue, I came up with in 1983. So the talking food thing worked. I figured if a Mexican jalapeno worked, why not an Italian meatball on a plate of spaghetti with an Italian accent? It will work! And, yeah, what the hell was I thinking?
Actually, I’d love an entire special consisting of nothing but his “what the hell was I thinking?” characters, as Tony seems quite charming. There aren’t many images of Tony out there (which is understandable), but I managed to grab this screenshot, just to give you a reference of what that character was and also to confirm Tony. done to exist.
Even if Tony The Talking Meatball didn’t quite work, for some reason there is a joke, yes only one, that Jeff Dunham is always proud of. As he explained:
There’s only one joke that worked, and it was this: “Do you speak Italian?” And he says “no”. And I said, ‘why not?’ And he says: ‘because I have no hands!’ It was the only joke that worked. So yes. Tony the talking dumpling. It was who he was.
Dunham has made it clear that he has no plans to revive Tony, so unfortunately we can’t expect an appearance I The People. However, the upcoming special will see the introduction of a new character called Url, who appears to be some sort of titled millennium.
While this is Dunham’s seventh Comedy Central special and has become a network staple, the comedian most recently came to Fox as the masked singerit’s Pi-Rat. Luckily, Dunham’s costume came with her puppet, staying true to the brand even in costume. Besides that, Jeff Dunham has solidified his place in pop culture by appearing in various television shows. He even created a “creepy” puppet of Tim Allen for the last man standing. Regardless of his relevance to pop culture, he will always be a stand-up comedian first and foremost.
