Twenty -seven years after its beginnings, Gorillaz continues his musical adventure. The virtual rock group, created by Damon Albarn and visual artist Jamie Hewlett, will launch The mountain, His ninth studio album, March 20, 2026. The single The happy dictatorIn collaboration with the Californian duo Sparks, it was launched this Thursday, September 11.
The album looks eclectic. The fifteen titles have been recorded worldwide: in Britain, nationality of the creators, but also in India, Turkmenistan, Syria and the United States. The titles are sung in five languages: Arabic, English, Hindi, Spanish and Yoruba.
According to Gorillaz’s press release, the album would reflect the trip of the four fictitious groups of the group. Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobbs, 2d and Noodle would have reached India at the rhythms of mystical music, far from the international pop that has made its celebrity. This ninth OPUS, first published under its Kong label, gathers prestigious collaborations. In addition to the Mael de Sparks brothers, there are also Rapper Black Thought, the former bassist of the shock Paul Simonon, Johnny Marr (The Smiths) or the virtuoso of Sitar Anoushka Shankar. The album also pays tribute to missing collaborators such as Bobby Womack, Dave Jolicoeur (De la Soul), Mark E. Smith (The Fall) or Tony Allen, Legend Afrobeat.
The announcement is accompanied by a series of concerts planned in 2026. The mountain tour It will begin on March 21 in Manchester and cross the sands of the United Kingdom and Ireland, to an exceptional concert at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on June 20, 2026, with the sparks and thunder in the poster.
