The legendary Brazilian musician Milton Nascimento, 82, suffers from dementia, a neurodegenerative disease, announced to his family.
Winner of five Grammys, the artist was recently diagnosed with a form of this disease, the dementia of Lewy’s body, according to his son’s words, Augusto Nascimento, in an interview published Thursday by Piaui magazine.
The singer and composer, one of the monuments of the Brazilian song in the same way that Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Chico Buarque, octogenarian like him, had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease a few years ago.
At the end of March, “I discovered that my father presented a sudden decrease in his cognitive abilities,” said Augusto Nascimento to the magazine.
Lewy’s body dementia

Milton Nascimento withdrew from the scene at the age of 80, but since then has remained active in the study. He was appointed for the Grammy Awards in 2025 for an album in collaboration with the American singer and dual Esperanza Spalding.
