Alcest, Gojira, Landmvrks or even Mass Hysteria. These are some of the groups nominated in the eleven categories of Foudres, this new (and first) French metal awards ceremony. The start is scheduled for this Thursday night around 8:00 p.m. at the Bataclan.
The awards will distinguish in particular “best album”, “artist” and “live performance of the year”, but also lesser-known aspects of the metal scene with a Lightning “shadow professions” that will reward three professionals working behind the scenes. Six categories were submitted to a public vote, in addition to that of a jury of professionals.
Presented by radio columnist and comedian Thomas VDB, the ceremony will be broadcast immediately, at 10:55 p.m., on France 4 and france.tv.
Live performances by Carpenter Brut, Revnoir, Grandma’s Ashes and Gravekvlt will mark the evening to thrill the approximately 700 spectators in the pit alone, an essential place to receive these sonic electroshocks.
“In full expansion”
“Metal was not sufficiently represented in the most official and general ceremonies”, while it is “in full expansion”, estimates Arnaud Millard, deputy director of the Bataclan, referring to the Victoires de la Musique.
The event is supported by Paris Entertainment Company which, in addition to the Bataclan since 2021, manages the Accor Arena and the Adidas Arena.
“Metal is not limited to some recent surprising effects, such as Gojira at the Olympic Games (from Paris to the opening ceremony, editor’s note), millions of people listen to it throughout the year,” underlines Pascal Gueugue, director of the Metal Music Federation, partner of the ceremony.
In this sense, Les Foudres follow the path of rap which, not being considered sufficiently considered by the great mass of French song, has had its own ceremony since 2023, Les Flammes.
