London police said on Sunday October 19 that they were examining allegations in the press that Prince Andrew had asked an officer to find compromising information to discredit Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault.
The Daily Mail claims, in an article published on Sunday, that Prince Andrew would also have tried to tarnish the reputation of Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault when she was 17 years old and was Epstein’s “sex slave” in the early 2000s.
A request to his bodyguard
In 2011, Andrés would have transmitted Giuffre’s date of birth and social security number to his escort, financed by the State to guarantee the safety of the royal family, and would have asked him to investigate her.
“We are aware of the reports spread by the press and we are actively investigating the allegations,” a London police spokesperson said in a statement sent to AFP.
This request from Andrés, who has always denied the accusations, would have occurred shortly before the publication of a now famous photograph, which shows the prince with his arm around the waist of Virginia Giuffre in London, indicates the Daily Mail.
He would have mentioned this request made to his bodyguard, who did not follow up, according to the newspaper, in an email sent to the deputy press secretary of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
“Deeply disturbing allegations”
British Energy Minister Ed Miliband, speaking on the BBC’s behalf on Sunday, called the allegations “deeply worrying.”
Virginia Giuffre’s brother, Sky Roberts, said Andrew’s renunciation of his title “feels right” for his sister, who died by suicide at the age of 41 in April. Virginia Giuffre filed lawsuits in 2021 against the prince, who avoided a trial in New York by paying her millions of dollars. His memoirs will be published posthumously on Tuesday.
In an interview on ITV News on Saturday night, he also called on King Charles III to strip him of his title of prince, which Andrew, now 65, retains as Elizabeth II’s son.
As a reminder, Prince Andrew renounced his title of Duke of York on Friday, under pressure from his brother Charles III following the publication of new revelations.
