“It’s simply the character of Perceval that I can’t find”: Franck Pitiot talks about his absence in “Kaamelott 2”

The emblematic actor of the medieval saga, who until then played the character of Perceval, is not included in the casting of the new part of “Kaamelott” for “artistic” reasons.

His absence was sorely missed by fans. His silence made people talk. The legendary actor of Perceval, in the credits of kaamelott Since the beginning of the series in 2005, he explained on Tuesday why he did not participate in the casting of the new part of the saga, which will premiere in theaters this October 22. A way to put an end to the speculation and controversies around this distancing.

“It’s not war. It’s just an artistic disagreement of a character (…). It’s just the character of Perceval that I can’t find. Everything is fine, leave it in the hands of Mr. Astier, he said in an interview with Geek Magazine. I’m happy that my character continues to live without me, it’s perhaps my best role.”

To better explain this choice, Franck Pitiot first returned to his slight frustration at not having had access to the script for the first film of kaamelottreleased in July 2021. “Because I am curious, I wanted to know how my character evolved, but Alexandre Astier did not want to share it, he explains. Therefore, we found ourselves filming without knowing the setting, without knowing how the character evolved ten years later. [la fin de la série]”.

Three years later, the 61-year-old actor encountered the same skepticism from Alexandre Astier when he asked him to read the manuscript of Kaamelott 2, part one. But after a “tender and calm verbal joust,” the director ends up accepting his request to “please him.”

It was there, when reading it, that Franck Pitiot “did not find himself,” he says. “I can’t pretend, I play for fun, I can’t play a character I don’t feel, so I said ‘no’ to Alexandre Astier.” And to clarify: “I’m not talking about the script, just about my character.”

Questioned by Samuel Etienne a few days ago about this absence, Alexandre Astier was more laconic about it: “[Franck Pitiot] He is not there because he did not return, he had justified himself. Franck Pitiot does not appear in the film, but for Perceval it is a little more complicated. In any case, it changed the writing a little.”

Franck Pitiot was still somewhat optimistic about the future and assured that he is not opposed to participating in the third part.
