Three years after earning an Oscar nomination, The Mitchells against the machines will be entitled to a sequel. According to the American media Variety, Netflix and Sony have announced that they are working on a second part of this animated film whose production will begin in early 2026.
This sequel will be directed by Guillermo Martine and JP Sans. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, producers and directors of the first part, will also return. The script was entrusted to sisters Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin.
Launch aborted due to pandemic
Released in 2021 on Netflix, The Mitchells against the machines Follow the adventures of the Mitchell family on a road trip to take their daughter Katie to film school in California.
But their journey takes a completely different turn when artificial intelligence triggers the machine revolt. Around the world, everyone’s beloved electronic devices, from phones to appliances to innovative personal robots, are deciding it’s time to take control.
A critical success, this animated film, originally planned for a theatrical release in 2020 but ultimately purchased by Netflix due to the pandemic, won eight Annie Awards and earned an Oscar nomination for animated feature film. We still do not know the release date of this second part.
