A figure that seems almost insignificant considering the colossal commercial interests surrounding the 007 franchise. While the amount was rumored to be close to a billion dollars, Amazon MGM would have paid $20 million to acquire creative control of James Bond according to a financial report from Eon Productions – the company of historical producers -, revealed on Wednesday by Variety.
The newspaper specialized in film and television points out, however, that “the exact structure of the agreement is not clear” and “it could include stock options or profit participation, which would considerably increase the remuneration of the Broccoli family.”
Last February, the historical producers of the saga, the half-siblings Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, announced that they had transferred their shares, rights and total creative control to the American giant, as well as the subsidiaries B24 Limited and B25 Limited. Thunder at the moment since this agreement represents an important change for one of the most influential franchises in the history of cinema.
The three entities, Wilson, Broccoli and Amazon MGM, have also formed a joint venture to own the intellectual property rights to the saga. Until then, Amazon MGM only owned 50% of the franchise and was relegated to passive partner status in terms of artistic choices.
It’s Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dunewho will do next James Bondwhile Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders will be in charge of the stage. We still don’t know who will play the next spy 007, but Denis Villeneuve has already announced that he will choose the casting when it is finished Dune 3.
