No brilliance, but ahead nonetheless. King Arthur’s Adventures with Astier, released on October 22, attracted just over 452,000 fans with 732 prints during its first five days according to CBO, including 86,000 in preview. A quite satisfactory score taking into account the current gloomy market, but a far cry from the million entries reached in the previous part of the year. kaamelott in July 2021, in the midst of a health crisis.
Alexandre Astier’s film is followed by dog 51 by Cédric Jimenez, released on October 15, which received 290,000 viewers during its second weekend, 11% less than the previous weekend. The science fiction feature film adapted from the novel of the same name by Laurent Gaudé thus accumulates 715,000 admissions in twelve days. It’s a little worse than the filmmaker’s previous thrillers, November (954,000 entries during the same time period in 2022) and Northern Bac (788,000 entries in 2021).
Two feature films surprise at the box office taking advantage of the gray All Saints’ holidays: the animated film Hopper and the secret of the groundhog by Benjamin Mousquet registers 224,000 new entries, 207% (!) more than last week and, therefore, reaches a maximum of 406,000 entries in twelve days; and comedy it was better tomorrow with Elsa Zylbertstein and Didier Bourdon is approaching the very good figure of 583,000 spectators at the end of its third weekend.
Good word of mouth
Last week’s artistic premieres, some of which benefit from very good word of mouth, are not far behind. the little one by Hafsia Herzi is off to a very good start with over 134,000 entries. A score already higher than the accumulation of the two previous feature films by the filmmaker and actress.
Likewise, the eco-futuristic animated film Bow by Ugo Bienvenu, produced by Natalie Portman and Grand Prix at the Annecy Festival, has already surpassed 112,000 viewers in five days.
However, The shrinking man by Jan Kounen only attracted 120,000 spectators in five days despite its 460 prints, the school holidays and its enormous budget of 21 million euros. A score very far from the 447,000 entries of 99F by the same filmmaker, and already with Jean Dujardin, during its first weekend, in 2007.
