Will Smith is back in the media. Eight months after his altercation with Chris Rock on the Oscar stage, the comedian has started the promotional tour for his new film Emancipationaired from December 9 on Apple TV +.
Asked by American journalist Kevin McCarthy, the 54-year-old actor wanted to address viewers who still wouldn’t be ready to see him on screen again since the slap incident last March.
“I completely understand. If someone is not ready, I will totally respect that and give them the freedom to never want to see me again,” she said.
And he adds: “My main concern is the film crew. My greatest wish is that my actions do not penalize the crew. At this point, that’s what I’m working on.”

Emancipation It’s Will Smith’s first film outing since the 2022 Academy Awards, where he took the stage and slapped host Chris Rock after a bad joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
The slavery drama’s director, Antoine Fuqua, has repeatedly defended keeping the 2022 release despite the incident. According to him, the film “is more important” than Will Smith’s gesture.
A guest on the set of the Daily Show, hosted by Trevor Noah, Will Smith returned for the first time in public to this slip for which he had apologized in a public video posted online last July.
“I didn’t want to be that kind of person,” says the comedian.
And to add: “I had to forgive myself for being human. Trust me, there is no one who regrets it more than me. I had to be humble and realize that I am imperfect.
