The American screenwriter Frank Miller prepares a series of six chapters adapted from the graphic novels short maltese, with the adventurer of the same name. He will also serve as executive producer of this fiction developed by StudioCanal.
Created by Italian comics writer Hugo Pratt in 1967, short maltese he is the hero of 16 albums. Another part, signed by Martin Quenehens and Bastien Vivès, black ocean, was released in 2021. If Pratt’s work has been adapted several times to animated films, it will be the first real image project focused on the famous sailor. No cast or director has been announced yet.

Frank Miller, writer of blockbusters like Sin City, 300 either Batman: The Dark Knight Returnsshares his passion for this comic book hero in a press release broadcast by the hollywood reporter:
“I discovered Corto Maltese reading the books at Forbidden Planet (a specialty bookstore in New York, editor’s note) when I was young. Then, during my travels, I studied and discovered an edition in a newsstand in Rome. The designs were so expressive and vivid (…) I was impressed”.
A film adaptation recently almost saw the light of day. Used by French director Christophe Gans (Wolf pact), with a cast that included Milla Jovovich, was announced in 2018 before being canceled the following year, French artist François Baranger, in charge of the project’s sketches, revealed.
