From 1998 to 2006, viewers could be transported to the mid-1970s to follow Eric Forman and his friends joking about That show from the 70s. The beloved comedy series also spotlighted Eric’s parents, Kitty and Red, with the latter often threatening to put his foot in someone’s ass if he sided with them. Good, that the 90s show is almost upon us, and among the reminders of the original show thrown in the first trailer is that Red is still a fan of this particular menace.
Set in 1995, 15 and a half years after the last moment of That show from the 70s, that the 90s show sees Callie Haverda’s Leia Forman, the teenage daughter of Eric and Donna, visit her grandparents in Point Place, Wisconsin for the summer. But just because Kurtwood Smith’s redhead is older doesn’t mean he’s gotten any sweeter. Instead, he makes it clear to Leia that if any of his friends walk into her room, she won’t hesitate to put her foot up their ass. Meanwhile, Debra Jo Rupp’s Kitty remains cheerful and friendly, handing out brownies to Leia’s friends as her husband tells everyone to get out of her, then quickly shuts the door behind them.
Hearing Red deliver his classic threat is enough nostalgia in the former. that the 90s show trailer, but there’s more where this comes from! The preview opens with the Vista Cruiser, which frankly looks more pristine than that. That show from the 70s days, and not only does Red and Kitty’s basement look basically the same, we see that Leia and her friends will engage in the same activity their parents did with Jackie, Hyde, Kelso, and Fez when they were teenagers. You know, the one that wraps them in smoke.
Although Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp are the only main ones That show from the 70s cast members who are series regulars that the 90s show (which went into production in February), they won’t be the only familiar faces appearing on Netflix (opens in a new tab) series. Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Milo Kunis, Ashton Kutcher and Wilmer Valderrama will reprise their respective guest roles, with Tommy Chong also letting slip that he will return as Leo. Jackie and Kelso are also known to get back together when that the 90s show rolls, which Kunis was surprised to learn. Danny Masterson will no longer be playing Hyde in the sequel, but he said in November 2021 that he was looking forward to watching the show.
