What we know about the health of Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth’s doctors say they are “concerned” about the British monarch’s state of health. Several members of the royal family are either at her bedside or on their way to Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

A country holds its breath. Queen Elizabeth II’s doctors say they are “concerned” this Thursday about the state of health of the 96-year-old sovereign, who is currently at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

• The queen “under medical supervision”

It was through a laconic press release from Buckingham Palace that the news fell this Thursday at the beginning of the afternoon. The Royal Family announced that “following further assessment this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended that she remain under medical supervision.”

“The Queen continues to feel comfortable and is staying at Balmoral,” reads the British royal family’s website.

An unprecedented and far from reassuring press release, the queen’s health being one of the UK’s best kept secrets. However, this has lessened in recent months, in particular due to the monarch’s age, but also the disappearance of her husband last year.

• Deterioration of health since your hospitalization at the end of 2021

Since a night in hospital last October for never-specified “preliminary examinations,” the queen, in failing health, shows herself more and more rarely. For several months, the British monarch has been shown with a cane … something that has not happened to her since 2004, when she had to undergo knee surgery. Her public return, several times postponed, came a few weeks later.

At the beginning of June, the British had celebrated for four days the 70 years of the reign of Elizabeth II. She was almost absent from this platinum jubilee, showing herself only twice briefly on the balcony of Buckingham Palace in front of tens of thousands of people. A few weeks later, however, she made several public appearances in Scotland, appearing smiling and carrying a cane during an armed forces parade in Edinburgh in late June.

• Not present at several events in recent weeks

the british newspaper The Guardian He reviewed the latest events in which the Queen participated or not. Elizabeth II began her summer vacation on July 21. On July 28, Prince Charles represented her at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

On August 8, the welcoming ceremony at Balmoral Castle, usually public, was held in private this year. A month later, on September 3, the Queen did not appear at the Braemar Games which the Royal Family has attended since 1848.

Everything has accelerated in recent days, with the resignation of Boris Johnson. The former British Prime Minister went to Balmoral for the transfer of power with Liz Truss, the new tenant of 10 Downing Street. Unpublished fact: the meeting between the queen and the new head of government does not take place at Buckingham Palace but at Balmoral, a sign that the queen’s state of health does not allow her to move.

He was recently unable to return to London, but was also unable to attend meetings by videoconference. On the advice of her doctors, Queen Elizabeth II postponed a Privy Council, a royal advisory body that hundreds of people, including political and religious leaders, can attend.
