The trailer promises ‘hit of the season’ for a group of mercenaries who raid a wealthy family’s home on Christmas Eve in search of a $300 million paycheck, and David Harbour’s Santa Claus is just the person to land those blows. Even the preview seems to have left some fans thirsty as much as eggnog, but it’s not from here or elsewhere. Let’s move on to the reviews, starting with 24 News Bulletin Review by violent night . Our own Mike Reyes gives the Christmas action movie 4 out of 5 stars, saying that screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller have managed to put together a dark comedy that also works on the brutality of R-rated action and Christmas magic. He also said:

Violent Night is a Christmas action sugar rush that never forgets to be brutal, fun and exciting, whatever the occasion. The good guys will be avenged and the bad guys will cower in fear when David Harbor comes to town with his own brand of justice and a taste for the best Christmas cookies.

by Chris Tilly abandoned he also gives the film 4 out of 5 stars, saying the action is fast and ferocious and the deaths are brutal and creative. Basically, this reviewer is saying, it is bad santa claus fulfilled die Hard:

Action is bad for a Christmas movie, while familiar stuff is sentimental for an action movie, but [director Tommy Wirkola] it ensures that everyone and everything is heading in the same direction, so the film’s sudden tonal shifts are a strength rather than a weakness. Though David Harbor is one of cinema’s great Santa Clauses, his Santa Claus is an irresistible mix of talk and mirth, which makes Violent Night a true Christmas cookie.

This critic wasn’t the only one to hear the die Hard vibrations. by Kristy Puchko mashed potato He says violent night here’s what you’d get if John McClane was Santa Claus. He added that the movie has a heart of gold, but leave the kids at home if you see this on the big screen:

All in all, Violent Night is a mixed bag. It lives up to the seasonal blood and carnage demanded of the Santa Slasher genre, and boasts a higher production value that makes moments sing, like Santa running through a chimney. It’s rated R for crass, gross, creepy, and graphic, which just might satisfy your craving for something wild to counter the sugary sweetness of a deluge of serious Christmas rom-coms. But for a job at Wirkola, it might be best seen as an entry point. You must be so wild to continue this journey.

by Kate Erbland indiewire give the movie a C+, calling violent night hyper-violent, sometimes funny and often strangely charming, as David Harbor seems to enjoy, says the reviewer. However, too much backstory ends up getting in the way of all the fun. Here’s more from that review:

For a movie that finds its deepest joys in something as sensational as an angry Santa beating a bad guy with a string of holiday lights, Violent Night often muddies its best ideas with a convoluted plot. It’s not just that Harbour’s Santa is angry, dissatisfied, or overly obsessed with his past as a Viking warrior (yes, Pat Casey and Josh Miller’s screenplay dives deep into his origins; no, the Viking story isn’t entirely his own ). fiction). ), is that this first big-screen adventure for this particular Santa Claus is too often beaten not by the villains but by the backstory.

Matteo Donato ign Rate the film “Good” 7 out of 10, agreeing that the lead actor enjoys every minute of the role. violent night brings the spirit of Christmas to a gory action debut that delivers what it promises thanks to an incredible David Harbour, according to the reviewer.

In Violent Night, nothing is silent and fiery explosions are vivid. Director Tommy Wirkola hosts the sentimental joy of Christmas in a David Harbor window that becomes crazier than the fragility of peanuts. Wirkola doesn’t back down when Home Alone turns into a graphic homage to traps that kill or Santa pulverizes bones under heavy steel, embracing B-movie extremes that more than deserve its “R” rating. It might take Violent Night a hot minute to find his footing and continue picking sweet plums, but with all his might, no one is stopping Santa from making Christmas redder imaginable this year.

If this is a bad Santa you need to experience on the big screen, you can take it violent night in cinemas from Friday 2 December.
