Death of Elizabeth II: a double rainbow in the sky of Buckingham Palace moves the British

As residents waited for news about Elizabeth II’s health, a double rainbow appeared in front of the royal family’s official residence.

Some saw it as a sign. As a crowd gathered outside Buckingham Palace in London on Thursday afternoon, awaiting news of Queen Elizabeth II’s health, a double rainbow appeared. Several Internet users have captured this moment in front of the official residence of the British sovereigns.

Some felt it was symbolic: “A final farewell to your people from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II: a double rainbow over Buckingham Palace and a single one over Windsor Castle. I like to think the little arch iris over Buckingham was that of Prince Philip, who was waiting for him”, declares this Internet user, for example.

Prince Philip died at the age of 99 in April 2021. He had been married to Queen Elizabeth for 73 years.

“God save the queen”

“The double rainbow over Buckingham Palace is an incredible tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. Her stoicism during a turbulent century is inspiring. May she rest in peace. My condolences to all who love him,” another Twitter user wrote.

Shortly after the announcement of the Queen’s death, aged 96, people gathered outside the palace sang “God save the Queen”, the UK national anthem, before singing her first “God save the King” for the new King Carlos III. Some, very moved, shed a few tears.

A rainbow has also been observed over Windsor Castle, one of the residences of the royal family, in England.

Flowers have already been laid in front of Buckingham Palace as a sign of tribute, where mourning Londoners continue to flow this Friday.

Carlos III announced that he would travel to London today, but did not say if he would arrive at the palace.
