“Thank you, ma’am, for everything”: Paddington Bear pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

The most famous bear in British children’s literature shared a cup of tea with the Queen last June for a skit to mark her platinum jubilee.

This Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 in Balmoral, Scotland. Numerous movie, television and sports stars have paid tribute to the 70-year-old monarch. Among them, the Paddington bear with which the queen had a cup of tea, last June.

On Twitter, the famous hero of British children’s literature wanted to greet the sovereign for the last time.

“Thank you ma’am, for everything,” the character’s official account tweeted.

Surprise sketch at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

For the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of her reign, during the platinum jubilee last June, Queen Elizabeth II had reserved a surprise for her subjects: she had recorded a short video where we saw her having tea with Paddington Bear.

Then he marked time with a silver spoon on his china cup, to the rhythm of we will Rock You by The Queen, timed with the opening of a giant concert in front of Buckingham Palace.

This surprise cameo recalls the opening of the London Olympics in 2012, where Queen Elizabeth II, in her own role, appeared alongside James Bond, played by Daniel Craig. “Good evening, Mr. Bond,” he had thrown at her, before borrowing a long hallway beside him, flanked by his eternal corgis. There, a double of the queen taking over, got into a helicopter, from which they had jumped together to reach the stadium where the opening ceremony was taking place.
