Maskey reveals his true identity. After more than seven years of making hidden face videos on Youtube, the videographer is taking off his mask. In his latest video, called “But where does rap go?”, the young man revealed his face for the first time to his 1.6 million subscribers, without any prior announcement.
Since his YouTube debut in 2015, Maskey has appeared with his face covered in a black mask in each of his videos. In an interview with BFMTV.com in 2019, the cameraman confided that he did not wish to reveal her identity publicly as a security measure.
“I was afraid of being wrong, so I put on a mask. (…) I didn’t want to be famous. I have problems with this concept, I want to preserve my privacy, ”she said.
Barrage of insults and derogatory comments
Despite this choice, Maskey also specified, in an interview for the media Yard, that some subscribers easily recognized him without his mask when they saw him. “In the end, the mask is absolutely useless, because it happens that they still recognize me on the street,” he said.
This revelation, however, did not stop reacting to Internet users. While some comments welcomed the videographer’s gesture, others were much less positive. Like Dream (30 million subscribers) who also publicly revealed his identity last October, Maskey quickly became the target of much ridicule for his physique and racist slurs on social media.
The videographer has since posted a new photo of himself, again without a mask, on his Instagram account.
