The Doctor Who showrunner has announced a big change for Disney+ and I’m thrilled

Doctor who switch to disney+ for its 60th anniversary specials and season 14, and there are a lot of changes to come with the arrival of Ncuti Gatwa’s doctor. It was recently said that there would be a significant increase in the budget of Who And while that’s yet to be confirmed, fans learned a lot about other things that change this season, thanks to an interview with showrunner Russell T. Davies. The EP revealed a big change for the show in regards to episode counts and production gaps, and I’m excited about this new era of the show.

Russell T. Davies spoke with Doctor Who magazine on the new era of BBC series and revealed the new way the series will look to be more consistent with its programming. Davies explained that season 14 will only have eight episodes, but also outlined the long-term plan of what to expect going forward. The potential tradeoff for fewer episodes may be that fans will see a lot more consistency when it comes to the release schedule. Check out what Davies had to say below (via bad wolf file ):

It takes a while to get the empire back on track, but it’s a serious plan: annual Doctor Who, no sabbaticals, lots of content, etc.

It really shouldn’t be underestimated how important it is for the show to eliminate sabbaticals, especially when you consider the fans who haven’t seen the show in recent years. There have been a few cases in recent years where the series he took a decent break between seasons with perhaps a handful of specials bridging the gap between the finish and the start of a new Who season .

Even though Russell T. Davies is reducing the number of episodes, it will be difficult to be too upset if new episodes come out every year. Of course, Doctor who hasn’t put that plan into action yet, and since filming on season 14 only recently began, we’ll see if the creative team is able to make that plan work successfully.

So far, that doesn’t seem like a difficult plan to execute. Russell T. Davies even teased that he’s currently working on a Christmas special for 2024, so one could assume that process is moving forward, at least as we finish writing. It seems like fans will have a good reason to keep theirs Disney+ subscription active for the foreseeable future, especially if they get content as often as Davies teased.

However, before reaching this new era of the franchise, the series will have to pass its 60th anniversary special. No doubt many are equally enthusiastic about it, such as David Tennant, Catherine Tate and many others Doctor who pupils will lend their talents to celebrate another milestone in the long-running series.

It’s also possible that this special sets the stage for Ncuti Gatwa’s inaugural season as The Doctor, which remains a mystery. We should have more answers around this time next year, and hopefully, there won’t be much of a wait for this franchise to move forward.

Anyone looking for watch Doctor who Streaming You can always do this using a Maximum HBO subscription Currently. There’s no telling when that might change, so anyone with access now shouldn’t waste time watching their favorite episodes!
