With only one episode left on HBO’s paranoid sex tourism drama. the white lotusfans are closer than ever to learning the general mystery of the corpses mentioned in the Season 2 opening sequence. But as any viewer knows all too well, the identities of the corpses are just one of many questions that need answers in the upcoming finale, another being “Why in God’s name, Harper Is she prone to flirting with Cameron and making Ethan jealous? Thankfully, star Aubrey Plaza provided key insights into that confusing excitement and how it’s the product of more than viewers saw.
Episode 6 apparently brought Ethan to his breaking point, and he clearly suspects things are going on between Harper and Cameron, and it’s not so unwarranted for such assumptions. Which is made all the more confusing by the idea that Harper hasn’t said or thought much about the feminization of Theo James since the start of the season. Talk with vanity salon Plaza explained why there is still some chemistry with Cameron despite all the negative feelings about her personality, saying:
Yes, I think it represents a species on the other side. It represents the freer, uninhibited and shameless side of things. I don’t think Harper really attracted him. I think she’s mad at him. . . . Just in terms of personality, I don’t think that’s her type, you know? But I think he hits a nerve with her, and that is she wants to get laid, you know? I’m sorry, but it’s like we’re all animals.
While we’d all like to think we could forever override our basic instincts in the face of such primal urges, that won’t always be the case. And in Harper’s situation, her potentially eroding marriage and lack of sex with Ethan has left the door open for some unfortunate decisions in the face of feminist dudes. Piazza continued:
It’s hard when you’re in a long-term relationship. It’s like you stop having sex, or sex gets boring or whatever. It’s just human nature, you know? It’s like your pheromones are meeting someone and maybe she’s not your type or whatever, but she comes up with something that says, “I don’t want to think.”
the white lotus introduced the idea that Cameron had a lasting influence on Ethan’s relationships, both real and idealized, with a lot of scar tissue building up there. And while we don’t know if that played a role in the initiation of Harper and Ethan’s marital problems, Aubrey Plaza has confirmed that the couple’s problems existed long before their trip to Italy, and that she intentionally played on the idea that she didn’t. were positive. . headspaces from the moment they arrived on the ship. But the island is, in fact, where these emerging concerns are finally being addressed, which has obviously created more of a powder keg situation than anything truly healthy for their shared future.
The question now, in the last episode, is whether Harper and Cameron are really going to do the dirty work, whether Ethan is going to find out, and how is anyone going to react to it all. I guess that’s more than a question.
