The hymn “God save the King” sung for the first time in St. Paul’s Cathedral

The British anthem has officially changed its lyrics and title to “God save the King”. This version was sung at St. Paul’s Cathedral for the ceremony honoring the Queen.

The queen and death, long live the king: the rise to the British throne of Charles III also means a change in the national anthem. The lyrics reflect the change in monarch, and thus change from “God save the queen” to “God save the king”. The first official performance was sung this Friday night, at St. Paul’s Cathedral, at the end of the Queen’s funeral.

At this commemorative ceremony, 2,000 people, as well as various official figures such as Prime Minister Liz Truss and London Mayor Sadiq Kahn, paid their respects to Elizabeth II.

Earlier in the day, the crowd heard this version of the British anthem as Charles III arrived at Buckingham Palace.
