Tiffany Haddish parody co-creator Aries Spears breaks silence about sexual solicitation and assault trial

There was a lot of talk about Tiffany Haddish and comedian Aries Spears this week after a lawsuit accusing them of grooming and sexual abuse was filed. The allegations stemmed from working with minors on a comic sketch that was later published in Funny or Die. (Though Funny or Die made it clear that they weren’t associated with making the skit, calling it “utterly disgusting.”) Now Spears has broken her silence on the upcoming legality.

Aries Spears is one half of a duo with the “Spears and Steinberg” podcast. The comedian posted a preview of the episode on social media in which he and fellow podcaster Andy Steinberg discussed their respective weeks. Andy wasn’t bad, but Spears obviously felt she had to talk to the elephant in the room, and so she did:

Look, obviously for legal reasons, I can’t talk about anything right now. But I would like to say to all faithful listeners, thank you for your support and love. Listen: this is an extortion case.

Her comments echoed those of the other celebrity cited in the lawsuit, Tiffany Haddish, who previously said she was “relieved” that this video and the lawsuit had finally come to fruition, noting that she was “tired of being extorted “from the comic sketch. You can see Aries Spears’ full comments below.

How Tiffany Haddish responded to the grooming lawsuit

Tiffany Haddish also talked about handling the lawsuit and a similar line to what Aries Spears said in her comments. But Haddish was sincere that he had “deep regrets” for what happened in the skit and what happened afterward.

I know people have a lot of questions. I understand. I am here with you. Unfortunately, as there is a legal process going on, I can’t say much at the moment. But clearly, while this sketch was supposed to be comical, it wasn’t funny at all and I deeply regret having agreed to reproduce it. It seems to me that I am really afraid that I will be able to share a lot more about this situation as soon as possible.

When the lawsuit was filed, he claimed that two people known as Jane Doe (22) and John Doe (presumably 15) had been “presumably prepared” for “cinematic parodies of child pornography of a sexual nature”. Tiffany Haddish’s attorney, Andrew Brettler, called her mother in her lawsuit, Trizah Morris, saying she has “tried to support these false claims for years”. He also said it had already been offered by other lawyers, all of whom had dropped the case before it became the lawsuit we’ve been hearing about in the last few days.

Haddish had a seemingly difficult year after breaking up with partner Common in late 2021 and revealing a subsequent DUI. Haddish’s best movies aren’t behind her or anything as she has many upcoming projects including The haunted palace movie. However, this lawsuit apparently comes during a transition period for the actress.

More details relating to this case are likely to be released in the coming weeks, although cases like this are often resolved without going to court. (Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s courtroom and the rampage of open documents was an outlier.) We’ll keep you posted anyway.
