FBI Finally returns to CBS with a new episode after a few weeks off, although it will be the last episode of 2022. Called “Lucky Son”, it will bring back Shantel VanSanten as Nina after she leaves at the beginning of the fifth season . the first episode with Nina and Missy Peregrym as Maggie. When Peregrym spoke to Gossipify in honor of her return from maternity leave, she spoke about how they might work together as a team, as well as the importance of women joining forces on the show.
Nina joined the team in the second half of season four after Maggie was exposed to sarin gas and out of service for the foreseeable future. You fit in perfectly and even started a relationship with Scola, but decided transfer from a very dangerous job to a white-collar division of the Bureau after learning she was pregnant. Now Maggie is back and Shantel VanSanten will appear in the fall finale on December 13th. When I spoke with Missy Peregrym prior to her return, she shared her thoughts on how the two agents might work together:
I think they would be a rude couple. What I love about the show is that they all have their strengths and weaknesses, and the great thing is that when you mix up the pairings, you get to play those things. I don’t know what would happen to Maggie and Nina, but I’m still in favor of this stuff.
Considering how valuable Nina was to replace Maggie, who never hesitates to make bold decisions, even to the point where OA worried about her and lately it caused some tension before its breakthrough – and fits so well with the team that OA trusted him , can we doubt that they would be a badass duo, as Missy Peregrym said? We spoke in November, well before Shantel VanSanten returned in the fall finale, but the actress pointed out the advantages of blending companies .
While Maggie is more often associated with osteoarthritis than anyone else, Missy Peregrym has opened up about how she feels FBI allowing the female characters to work together, saying:
I also love the episodes with Katherine. [Renee Turner], where you can play with other people’s characters. Whenever you have teams of women, and they’re really strong, they support each other instead of, you know, “They can’t get along because they’re women.” There’s room for two women in one room, that’s fine! In fact, we can work very well together and do many things. But yeah, that would be a lot of fun. Personally, I’d love to be able to play it [Shantel VanSanten].
Katherine Renee Turner plays Tiff, who joined the team and became Scola’s regular partner in season three. FBI filled in some important blanks on Tiff and her background at the start of season five, and supported Maggie when she returned in November. With Isobel, they definitely prove that women can easily work together. It seems safe to say that Maggie would be thrilled to work with Nina, as she Nina has proven to be a very capable agent.
That said, there’s no guarantee Nina and Maggie will share scenes when Shantel VanSanten returns in the fall finale. CBS’ episode description reveals that Nina will approach Scola with a proposition, though she’s not 100 percent convinced to accept. Meanwhile, the case of the week will involve a teenager who arrives at the FBI with a bag of fentanyl and needs protection.
