HBO Max is in the midst of a serious transition period ahead of its merger with Discovery+. Warner Bros. As part of the preparation process, the service has canceled shows and possibly remove them from the platform . The latest show to suffer this fate is the shameless, the critically acclaimed period comedy that was renewed by the streamer earlier this year. It’s a decision that fans are sure to find disappointing, especially since the show was going to be has almost finished filming its second season . However, actor Jake Johnson, in a thankful and hopeful social media post, said the canceled show wasn’t over yet.
Jake Johnson shared a post on instagram , in which he discussed the current state of the comedy series. The actor confirmed that the cast and crew have nearly completed filming the second season and confirmed that work will continue. He also revealed what he knows about plans for the future right now:
We have been removed from HBOMax but we are still finishing the season. Luckily, they haven’t stopped production. There’s a week left until filming ends. From what I’ve heard S1 and S2 (and hopefully S3) will find a new home, the question is where.
So maybe it’s not the end of the show after all. The decision to continue production bodes well for the show created by Ellen Rapoport. Of course, there’s the question of which company would pick it up if it were actually purchased. It’s certainly something to think about, but, at this point, viewers are probably happy to hear this optimistic news from one of the stars.
Martha is set in the 1970s and centers on Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond), a young feminist living in Los Angeles. Determined to create the first erotic magazine for women, Prigger teams up with a small-time porn publisher named Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson) to make her dream come true. And from there, the two navigate the industry, forming unexpected but endearing bonds along the way. The series has been acclaimed since its debut, with many taking notice of the writing and performances of its lead actors. In his post, Johnson praised the cast and crew for Season 2, before thanking fans for their support:
The team really killed it this season. @blakemcclure stuck as a DP. The sets/costumes/everything. He was really impressive and it was worth it. I can’t wait to find a new platform for these episodes. We appreciate all the online support. We love doing the show and can’t wait to continue doing it. It’s a crazy deal and that’s part of what that is [addictive] about this topic
The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse The actor concluded his post by expressing hope that he and his teammates “will have some good news to share soon.” He also shared a fun behind-the-scenes photo of him and his co-star Ophelia Lovibond. Look:
Meanwhile, many remain concerned about the fate of the streaming service’s other content. HBO Max Originals like it The Chubby Chronicles Prestigious series have been eliminated, and even recently cancelled. The western world is set to be removed from the streamer entirely. We do not know what will remain when the HBO/Discovery+ hybrid service (who will presumably be called Max). It will be interesting to see if Martha along with other canceled shows they are finding new homes in the broadcasting sphere.
Martha may no longer be available with a Maximum HBO subscription but keep your eyes peeled to see if it ends up somewhere in the TV show 2023 .
