The coming year is huge for The Walt Disney Company story. After all, it was in 1923 that Walt and Roy O. Disney founded the studio, making 2023 the 100th anniversary of the huge conglomerate. Of course, there will be many celebrations in different ways, but a special way to celebrate the occasion is on the big screen with the launch of the Walt Disney Animation Studio. Wisha new film that was just announced this afternoon at D23 Expo 2022.
As we continue to wait for the arrival of the latest Walt Disney Animation Studios film (Strange worldscheduled for release in November), artistic director Jennifer Lee took the stage in Hall D23 of the Anaheim Convention Center today to announce what will come from the legendary brand in 2023. The film will be titled Wish as it’s inspired by the long history of Disney characters wanting a star, and will be directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn. As noted in the Tweet, Ariana DeBose will star Wish, which is the girl you see sitting on a tree branch in the photo. Her name is Asha and she is a 17 year old girl from Roses, known as the Kingdom of Wishes because it is a place where residents can wish for a star and see their dreams come true. Another character you can see in the first look above is Valentino, a goat in pajamas who wishes he had the ability to speak (and is voiced by Alan Tudyk in the film).
According to Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, Wish it will see Asha making such a passionate plea to heaven for a true star to come down to Earth, and in the film she will be a mute character communicating through pantomime (which is sure to be a delight for the film’s animators). Star is described as a “cosmic force of possibility, imagination and hope” and a “ball of limitless energy”, which means she should be added to the great and long legacy of the adorable Disney characters.
Chris Buck added that the film “will take the concept of Easter eggs to a whole new level,” making us excited about all kinds of entertainment as part of the references to 100 years of Disney films, and fans will be very excited to learn that it is. Walt Disney’s latest animated production which is also a musical. The music is written by Julia Michaels and the first song of the film, “More of Us”, was performed by Ariana DeBose on the stage of the D23 Exposition.

The action will continue throughout the weekend, with the big show tomorrow morning, when the event audience can get a glimpse of all that is in store at Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Studios.
