While there is no shortage of modern superhero movies, sometimes it’s nice to indulge in some of the classics. Long before the genre went mainstream in Hollywood, moviegoers watched Christopher Reeve’s Superman and Michael Keaton’s Batman battle the forces of evil. It’s saying something that these actors’ version of the characters are still loved today, and now DC Comics has revealed an interesting fact about these previous Superman and Batman movies: they’re set on the same Earth.
DC Comics’ latest crossover, black crisisis starting to cool off and this week saw the release of a one-shot titled Dark Crisis: The Big Bang. Most of the related issue has the Barry Allen version of the Flash and the Wallace West version of the Kid Flash going head-to-head with the Anti-Monitor in multiple realities, but near the end there’s a section called “Notes from Barry Allen.” ”, in which readers can see dozens of Earths that make up the current version of the DC Multiverse. Among them is Earth-789, in which “Superman and Supergirl are Earth’s only powerful heroes; the parents of Batman killed by the Joker. In addition to the description, Superman ’78 Yes Batman 89 are in parentheses, in reference to the two comic book limited series released in the past two years involving Christopher Reeve Superman and Michael Keaton Batman movie.
Simply put, in the current DC Multiverse, these incarnations of Superman and Batman, as well as Helen Slater’s Supergirl, live in the same reality. Now, it’s worth noting that since the Batman ’89 comic series only served as a sequel to Batman Yes Batman returnsi.e., telling how Billy Dee Williams’ version of Harvey Dent became Two-Face, then we can assume that Batman forever Yes batman and robin, which saw Val Kilmer and George Clooney don the cape and cowl, respectively, does not take place on Earth-789. However, at least now, fans of Reeve’s Superman and Keaton’s Batman can imagine these two teaming up, something we’ll sadly never see on screen. Hey why not make it happen in the comics with a Superman ’78/Batman 89 Go through?!
Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that DC Comics’ version of the multiverse doesn’t apply to all DC media. Namely, The CW’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event from a few years ago had different designations for these versions of Batman and Superman. Michael Keaton’s Caped Crusader is indicated to have lived in Earth-89 through the presence of reporter Alexander Knox, as well as Brandon Routh’s Hombre de Acero, who is assumed to be the misma version of Christopher Reeve (recuerde What superman returns it was considered a spiritual sequel to the first two Superman movie), lived on Earth-99.
Honestly, it’s not worth overthinking; just make peace with the fact that there are different interpretations of the multiverse, and ultimately it’s up to the reader to determine which canon he prefers. However, starting next year, we will find Michael Keaton’s Batman again the flashif your Earth has a name, I’m interested to see if they have the designation 89 or 789, or even use a completely different number.
