In October, a decade and a half after Dwayne Johnson was first cast as Black Adam, the black adam the film is finally released in theaters. Well, following discussions with DC Studios co-head James Gunn, The Rock has released a statement clarifying Black Adam’s cinematic future.

My dear fans, I wanted to give you a long-awaited update from Black Adam on the character’s future in the new DC Universe. James Gunn and I have met and Black Adam will not be in his first narrative chapter. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways to use Black Adam in future chapters of DC’s Multiverse. James and I have known each other for years and have always supported each other to be successful. It’s no different now, and I will always support DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG.
Dwayne Johnson went on to say that fans can always count on him to be “direct” with his words and that “decisions made by James [Gunn] and DC represent his vision of the DCU through his creative lens. Finally, before wishing everyone “a productive week and HAPPY HOLIDAYS,” The Rock had this to say about his time with Black Adam:
After 15 years of hard work to finally make Black Adam, I am very proud of the film we have delivered to fans around the world. I will always remember the fan reaction to Black Adam with immense gratitude, humility and love. we did a great job To my very passionate and vocal fans of the Black Adam/Super Hero genre: I love you, THANK YOU, and I WILL ALWAYS LISTEN and do my best to deliver and entertain you.
added James Gunn his tweet that she is “excited” to see what Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Production Company are up to and that she “looks forward to collaborating soon.” This update comes several weeks after it was reported black adam it would lose money at the box office, to which Dwayne Johnson replied that it would actually make a profit. In any case, black adam It also disappointed many professional critics, with the film rated 39% on Rotten Tomatoes, despite boasting an 88% audience rating. Johnson’s superhero debut saw Teth-Adam awaken after 5,000 years and go head-to-head with the Justice Society, which consisted of Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate, Quintessa Swindell’s Cyclone and Noah Centineo’s ‘Atom Smasher’.
Dwayne Johnson’s mention of “future chapters of the DC Multiverse” seems to be another sign that James Gunn, who heads up the new DC Studios with producer Peter Safran, is heading towards a new shared universe. We already know this happens with Superman, as Henry Cavill will no longer play the Man of Steel after his appearance black adamcredits scene, and Gunn is writing a reboot that seems to be inspired by the Batman. There is also the fact that wonder woman 3 doesn’t move forward, as does the unofficial discussion that Jason Momoa could quit Aquaman and start playing Lobo.
Thing is, if a new DC shared universe is launched, it would make sense for Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam not to get involved anytime soon, no matter how good the movie is. That said, just like Marvel, DC has its own multiverse to work with, as we’ll see prominently next year the flash, Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen meets Michael Keaton’s Batman and heroes from other universes. so just why black adam 2 isn’t on the table anymore, that doesn’t mean Johnson’s Black Adam can’t return one day if he’s taken out of the DCEU and thrown into this alternate reality. As Johnson and James Gunn said, they’re interested in working together, so they’ll definitely find something.
