Carmen Electra has had a somewhat fast career. She’s been thinking about it over the past few months, speaking ahead of the People’s Choice Awards about her early days as a “ballerina” before working with Prince, then gaining recognition of her starring in projects on the TV show such as Baywatch. Yup, the Prince. While talking to Mario Lopez and Courtney Lopez, he recently dropped his real name and also shared that it was the Minneapolis musician who gave him the name “electric.”
in an episode of access to hollywood Carmen Electra has revealed that Prince was responsible for her stage name. It has long been known that while Electra was working for Prince’s Paisley Park Records (where she recorded an album in 1993) she changed her name on the artist’s recommendation, but she has shared her full story here.
Electra not only opened up about her real name, Tara Leigh Patrick, of Ohio, but confirmed what happened and why she changed, noting:
He gave me my name. She said, “You don’t look like Tara.” Since my real name is Tara, Tara Leigh Patrick is my real name. [He said], ‘You look like a car. A Carmen. She said, “The C is for the car, and the m is for the men in my shows.” And I was like, ‘Well, that’s fun!’ Then she said, “Well, you have to give up, I don’t know, when you dance you’re electric.”
The actress then talked about the real superhero who shared her name, and I think Elektra was her. Baywatch The star you’re referring to has to be Elektra Natchios, the fearless bounty hunter and assassin with countless ties to Daredevil Matt Murdock. Though it’s worth noting that Prince’s version of the name is spelled differently, and Carmen has also addressed this with her recent comments to Lopez.
Electra came along and at first I thought, “Sounds like a superhero name. What I think it is. And I was like, ‘I don’t know if I want to do this or not. But then it clicked and I was like, ‘Well this is from Prince and I care. Carmen Electra is my name and I will stick with it… I am proud that she belongs to Prince.
While the actress’s musical career only lasted for the album of the same name, the name stuck. Shortly thereafter, she Electra posed nude in Playboy, then she moved to Los Angeles, where she began taking roles, including the one mentioned above. Baywatch, their most iconic concert to date. She also dated Dennis Rodman in the late ’90s, which might not seem like much of an issue, until you realize the star turned heads again in 2020 by appearing in Michael Jordan’s documentary. The Last Dance.
Then she jumped on OnlyFans and was a supporter of the platform. She noted that she gave her control over creating content for the first time in her career, and Electra noted that OnlyFans gave her a “safe place” to interact with her fans.
