From Stella McCartney to Victoria Beckham, including Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Claudia Schiffer, the fashion world pays tribute to the committed British designer Vivienne Westwood, a punk icon who died this Thursday at the age of 81.
“Vivienne Westwood’s obsession was to change our habits by changing the world,” French stylist Jean-Charles de Castelbajac summed up for AFP, welcoming a “wonderful woman, brave and determined in her convictions,” who captivated her from her first meeting with his “Chicken Bone Shirts”.
“His strength was that it was not just about fashion, but about conscience,” he added, recalling that “his last fight and his last sadness were the living conditions of Julian Assange.” He had also designed the wedding dress for his wife, Stella Assange, who paid tribute to him on Twitter.

Ultra-politicized and committed to the environment, the great lady of fashion died surrounded by her family in Clapham, south London.
“Mocked the fashion industry, she is undeniably the undisputed queen of British fashion,” British musician Boy George tweeted.
“I am very saddened to learn of the death of the legendary designer and activist, Dame Vivienne Westwood,” the former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham, turned fashion, published in an Instagram story.
Mourning the disappearance of “one of the rarest British fashion icons”, her colleague and compatriot Stella McCartney greeted the same network who “invented punk” and “bravely inspired her career”.
Model Claudia Schiffer also paid tribute to his “genius” and “his unique voice, which will be irreplaceable and missed.”
Other celebrities from the world of cinema have also expressed their admiration. “Rest in punk,” wrote American actress Jamie Lee Curtis, the star of sex and the city Kim Cattral also hails a “legend.”
