But lately, there’s been a rhetoric in the fandom regarding author JK Rowling’s views on transgender women. This prompted some of the franchise’s key figures to speak out about the situation. including Daniel Radcliffe , Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. And now Harry PotterThe Dudley actor has responded to Rowling’s controversial comments about the transgender community.
Actor Harry Melling played Dudley Dursley in five of Harry Potter movie, growing before our eyes in the process. He has since become a successful adult actor, with roles in projects such as The Queen’s Bet, the old guardYes The tragedy of Macbeth. He was recently interviewed by The independent , where he chimed in on the ongoing discussions of JK Rowling’s views on trans people. as she said,
I can only speak for myself, and what I feel, for myself, is very simple, that transgender women are women and transgender men are men. Every person has the right to choose who they are and to identify with what is true for them. I don’t want to join the debate by pointing my finger and saying, “That’s right, that’s wrong,” because I don’t think I’m the right spokesperson for this. But I believe that everyone has the right to choose.
To take. While Harry Melling has been careful with his words about JK Rowling about it all, the Harry Potter icon has unequivocally supported the transgender community. And in doing so, she’s following in the footsteps of many other wizarding world stars. Unfortunately, the rhetoric surrounding the franchise writer shows no signs of slowing down.
Harry Melling’s comments to The Independent come while promoting his role in Scott Cooper pale blue eye, which will be released on Netflix this week. Eventually the conversation turned to Harry Potter, which is probably an experience you probably know all too well. And as controversy continues to surround JK Rowling, Melling has been throwing her weight on the already very vulnerable transgender community.
As mentioned above, the trio of Harry Potter stars came out in support of trans people shortly after JK Rowling’s comments on gender and sex went viral. fantastic beasts Actor Eddie Redmayne has also made his voice known, despite his continued collaboration with the author on the magical franchise. None of these people specifically attacked Rowling or her character, but instead focused on sending transgender people love.
Of course, Rowling also had her own Wizarding World fan fair. Helena Bonham Carter and Voldemort himself Ralph Fiennes have spoken out against the online hate that has been leveled against the author. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has confirmed its ongoing relationship with Rowling regarding Harry Potterso apparently it’s going nowhere.
