It certainly surprised many when the directorial debut of Jordan Peele, a man known almost exclusively for comedy, produced one of the best thrillers in years. The film was not only a box office hit, it was an awards season favorite, garnering multiple Academy Award nominations and even a win. It was something no one saw coming, except seemingly salt co-star Allison Williams.
Talk with uh Allison Williams reveals that it wasn’t until she read the script that she told her publicist what she thought salt it would become an Oscar-nominated film. Even she realizes that saying that was pretty bold, calling herself delusional, before the film even started rolling, but perhaps it’s fitting, considering it’s the only Oscar she’s ever received. salt won was by script. Williams explained…
Before we went to shoot, I told my publicist I thought I was being nominated for an Oscar. He was like, this girl is delusional. Who says that? What kind of pompous weirdo will make a movie and say, this movie I picked is going to be nominated for an Oscar. Then, to his surprise at her, it turned out she was right.
It seems that even Allison Williams was a little surprised that her own prediction came true, and to be fair, while salt It wasn’t one of those movies nominated for a dozen different awards, it was nominated for four major awards, including Best Director, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture. It lost two against another genre film, that of Guillermo del Toro. The shape of water. in another year salt could have been a big winner.
Other than Jordan Peele being a first time director, the other “strike” against salt it was that it fit the horror/thriller genre, which often doesn’t get the recognition it deserves when it comes to awards season. But in the end the movie was really that good and there was no way to let it go.
Allison Williams has built a solid career in the horror genre. After she gives up salt she appeared in James Wan Evil and also appears in this weekend M3GAN. While there was clearly something about each of these scripts that appealed to her, she saw something very special Salt.
There are people whose job it is to find screenplays that are successful, whether as blockbusters, award winners, or more preferably both. Perhaps Allison Williams should be hired as a script reader. I know studios that would love to have someone with their talent on board.
