At its peak in the 2000s, punk he built a reputation pranking Hollywood celebrities like Kim Kardashian using unfathomable plot lines. Most of the outrageous pranks paid off, with the stars at the center angry, sad, or even shocked. But not all ventures were successful as some episodes are said to have been dropped because the target found out about things. One person who fell for nothing was Gabrielle Union, who came under fire on the show on several occasions. And recently, she and series alum Dax Shepard hilariously recalled several failed attempts.
The main mistakes were revealed when Gabrielle Union was a guest on the Dax Shepard show. Armchair for experts podcasts. As hinted at on the show, the host interviewed the actress’ husband, former NBA star Dwayne Wade, in 2022, so they definitely know each other. However, the old Paternity the actor noted that they had met more than two decades earlier. Union couldn’t remember when or where she had met him, prompting Shepard to mention hers punk Episodes:
Are you ready for this. You’re the only person in my tenure at Punk’d who didn’t get the joke. [out] of the 26 people I pranked with. You’re the only person who said ‘Hmmm, that’s bullshit’.
When the podcast host remembered his punk days, the actress quickly remembered being on the popular hidden camera show. She also recalled precisely how many times she was there, saying the crew “tried twice” to reach her. Dax Shepard further clarified that it was only part of one of the attempts, and it’s very specific:
I was just part of Armas’ satellite dish. We put it in your garden.
Of course, he just wanted to make sure his guest (and his listeners) knew that he personally only failed once. From Inspection The star detailed the first failed round the MTV show tried to play him in:
It was the second attempt. [The first attempt] it was a car accident. They tried to pretend my car was hit or something with my car in a parking lot… I feel like I came back and my car was gone or something. And I say “No, no”. Ashton was trying to save him, and the more the weird lie starts, he’s like, “This is Punk’d, and I think I probably said, ‘This is Punk’d.’
This first false storyline actually triggered Gabrielle Union, as she called the parking lots the “bane of her existence.” She mentioned her anxiety associated with them and mentioned where her car is parked. Dax Shepard corrected her that these steps occurred before the first season premiere of the joke reality series. Shepard then shed some light on the second time the team tried to get Union:
If I remember correctly, you were married… You were somewhere in the Hollywood Hills, facing the valley. maybe you lived [in] southern wooded hills. And it was a crooked road, and her premise was that her husband had subscribed to a cable TV package? Not knowing it was a huge satellite dish like the ones you see NASA using. So in her modest courtyard stood in the hills.
Anyone would be surprised to see a huge satellite dish (associated with space exploration) in their backyard. Union she remembers coming home with the license plate in her driveway, and apparently it didn’t take her long to figure out what was really going on:
No, you put it in my driveway. You know there is no parking on a hill. So that was the first order of business I was able to park… [Thinking] it’s not a thing, and then Jamie Foxx was trying to sell it, but we were having a fight party that day. And I was like a) I haven’t forgotten anything about my first husband, but I said ‘No.’
So him cheaper by the dozen star has already entered the scandalous situation with a healthy dose of skepticism. It’s also interesting to know that Jamie Foxx was involved, and it seems this little detail even slipped Shepard’s mind:
I forgot Jamie Foxx was one of them… He and I kept coming back to that garage. So, I was the one giving the bad news and I had headphones. So I made my presentation. I explained what had happened in the papers. [, saying] “That was the package you signed up for” and the look on your face is like no, then you walk away.
After Union noticed and walked away from Shepard, he talked about series creator Ashton Kutcher, trying to get him to continue the joke. But the podcast host recalled having to reality check Kutcher after Union’s skepticism kicked in:
I know Ash can hear me because I have a mic and headphones on, and I’m like, ‘This is going to happen. And he’s like ‘no, no’, and I’m like ‘No, let me tell you something’. I just looked into her eyes. It’s insurmountable. We made a lot of tries, but we never managed to catch you… I mean, it was disappointing for me because I [had] I went to Woodland Hills and put on a stupid brand new dress, and then we had nothing to show for it, but I applaud your skepticism.
So I’d say the main thing about both of these situations is that you can’t cheat on Gabrielle Union. The star, who recently voiced a Disney character Strange world – he’s too smart. So if Ashton Kutcher proposes punk the reboot never takes off, don’t expect that to be one of the jokes.
The actress will return as a guest star in another sequel: The Proud Family: Stronger and Prouder — However, later this year, you’ll be able to stream its episode with a Disney+ subscription. You can also watch classic episodes of punk if you have a Hulu subscription. And don’t forget to check out our 2023 TV schedule for more news on the small screen.
